Tre Gai - What it is?

Tre-Gai Bambusa blumeana(  J.A. & J. H.Schult., 1830) means:

- TRe is "Bamboo"

- Gai is " Thorny" 

So "What is tre gai" - a description is :" this is large diameter thorny bamboo - only grown in tropical jungles, species of tre gai  is original of Vietnam . Harvesting in mature year and well treated, it's strength as steel sothat it is approved construction materials grade for material alternative to wood, steel"

Morphology of tre gai

These bamboo clusters, 15-25 m length( ~20-45ft) with a range of diameters: 5- 8-12 -
14 cm, largest diameter bamboo up to 15-16cm (~2-inch,3-1/8.inch, 5-inch, 5-3/4.inch, 6-1/4.inch, 7-1/4.inch). Each node 25 - 30 cm length (~ 9.3/4-inch to 11.5/8inch) and 3/4.in - 1.1/2 inch thick wall. Green Color. It is curved on the tops and nearly the bottom , the nodes are covered around by roots. 

  At one year old, there is setea brown coated outside skin surface.

 At mature age, main nodes will be smooth surface, wall thickness. The branches crisscross by dense bush with sharp curved hard thorns.

 Each clump of bamboo flowering blooms at one time at 100-year after that bamboo end the cirle life.

GROWTH AREA:

Tre Gai bamboo is well developed in 700m high above sea level from coastal to midland and mountains. You can find everywhere in Asian tropical jungles, specialize in Southeastern Asian countries as Vietnam.This is the preferred species of bamboo moisture and light demanding. Besides, the rich mineral land((good soil, deep soil, humus), the high humidity and tropical weather result in the healthy growth of bamboo, we could select the best quality bamboo here,  the large diameter can be reach maximium 16cms~ 7inch with thick walls and 30m tall . It is to be approved: "the strongest solid bamboo in the world".

Biological features:

Tre gai bamboo plants are strong resistance, very few pests. 

Tre gai can grow in bad ground  it will be smaller as usual but we can harvest maximum wall thickness nearly solid.

Tre gai plants can grown in floodwaters longer than other bamboo species. The suitable pH of the soil is   bamboo thorns is 5-6.5 pH.

3 years after planting bamboo can reach the heigh of 3m and begin to have shoot. After 5 years the height is average 8-10m. Since shoots appear until reaching a maximum height of mature trees about 5 years ,

 In good soild and care condition, there is 30 shoots per bamboo cluster per year. tre gai grows average 17 cm of heigh each day in the rainy  season. Each bamboo cluster, there is 10-40 trees.

Use

Tre gai bamboo poles are very solid and hard to get used as piles for basement construction of building in Asia countries

TRe gai can get used as build gates and bridges, reinforced concrete.... ...

TRe gai bamboo can get used to weave basket, furniture, handicrafts.

TRe gai bamboo can get use as pulp to make papers. ....
